Bob Engle

Robert "Bob" Engle is a graduate of College of Idaho (1963) and Willamette University College of Law (1966). He has spent his entire career with the firm and predecessor firms in Woodburn, Oregon, and has been a member of the Oregon Bar since 1966.

Bob is noted for his work in Estate Planning, Trusts, Probate, Real Property, Business Law, and Municipal matters. He has also been involved with numerous civic and charitable pursuits, including Kiwanis, Woodburn Chamber of Commerce, Campaign for Equal Justice, Woodburn Methodist Church, Silverton Hospital Trustees and Oregon Community Foundation. Bob is a past recipient of the Woodburn Distinguished Service Award and a former winner of the Boss of the Year award from the Marion-Polk Legal Secretaries Association. Bob was also recognized by the Woodburn Area Chamber of Commerce for the 2007 Senior Distinguished Service Award, based upon his continued involvement in community activities and development.

Bob has lived and worked in Woodburn since 1966.

Kirk Schmidtman

Kirk Schmidtman is a 1973 graduate of Washington State University and a 1976 graduate of Willamette University College of Law. He has been with the firm since 1975, and has spent his entire legal career with the firm and predecessor firms. He has been a member of the Oregon Bar since 1976, and is a current member of the Estate Planning and Family Law Sections of the Oregon State Bar.

Kirk's practice focuses upon Wills and Estate Planning, Probate and Probate Avoidance, Divorces and Family Law, Automobile Insurance Injury Claims, Formation of Corporations-LLCs, Contract Negotiations and Drafting, and Arbitration-Mediation Services. Kirk has also been actively involved with a variety of community and church groups including Woodburn Rotary, St. Luke's Catholic Church, St. Paul Rodeo Association, Woodburn Junior Basketball Inc., Woodburn Area Youth Golf Association, and local youth recreation programs. Kirk is the past president of Woodburn Rotary Club and Woodburn Jaycees, serves on the board of Woodburn Rotary Foundation, and has been a member of the administrative council for St. Luke's Catholic Church since 1995. He is also a past winner of the Boss of the Year award for the Marion-Polk Legal Secretaries Association.

Kirk has been active in the Woodburn community since 1976.

Calvin N. Souther, Jr.

Cal Souther has been "of counsel" to the firm since March 2009, and brings with him a broad range of legal experience acquired during his many years as an attorney. Cal is a graduate of Washington State University (1967) and Willamette University College of Law (1970), and he has practiced law as a sole practitioner, corporate counsel, and as an assistant attorney general with the Oregon Department of Justice. Cal's areas of practice include general business, contracts, corporate law, LLCs, partnerships, real property, land use and Measure 37/49 litigation, sales, leases, agriculture, dispute resolution (litigation, arbitration, mediation, negotiation), employment law, trusts and estates, trust disputes, business and property torts, government takings, administrative law, and governmental law. Cal has also worked as a registered investment advisor, partner, officer, director, and shareholder of several business entities, and has served on the board of directors for several charities, and worked as a rancher. He was awarded the Oregon Department of Justice Outstanding Service Award in 2008. His practice focuses on helping people solve their legal problems and disputes, and planning to prevent problems before they occur.
